Using finely-beaten, pigmented paper pulp, students will make imagery on freshly pulled sheets of handmade paper. Participants will learn introductory handmade paper techniques such as Western sheet formation, as well as surface design methods of pulp painting, stenciling, and inclusions. When dried, pulp paintings are a part of the paper itself! Elements such as photos, hair, leaves, and newspaper clippings can be embedded into newly made sheets of paper or by using methyl cellulose as an adhesive.
Please be aware that papermaking is a wet activity – wear clothing and shoes that can get wet. Class involves some physical activity, including standing and arm movements. All supplies are provided through the materials fee. La maestra habla español.
