A workshop exploring the history of graphic representation of poetry with many examples: from petroglyphs through Ming dynasty poets, William Blake, Apollinaire and contemporary asemic composition. Students will experiment with different writing implements and marking media, and compose poetry lines in metal type that will be printed letterpress. A thousand pictures condensed into a single word…or was that the other way round? Materials & fascination provided.
No experience necessary.
Please be conscious that cleanup and putting type away is every students responsibility, it does take time, and is part of the full letterpress experience.
