second annual fundraising luncheon

October 6th, 2019 marks the second annual fundraiser for North Bay Letterpress Arts. We are excited to gather for a lunchtime event at Hopmonk Tavern, where a special menu & libations will be served. We will enjoy a talk by guest Kathleen Walkup, a silent auction & raffle, and other fun & games. Lunch will be followed by a reception and champagne toast up the road at the printshop. We hope you choose to join, sponsor, or donate to this special event!

Lunch has SOLD OUT, but there is still room at the reception up the road!

OUR FUNDRAISING GOAL: $10,000

Our 2nd fundraiser is a luncheon and reception for the community. The goal is two-fold: 1) to raise funds to launch a youth printing program, in which the history & art of printing/bookmaking is explored by middle & high school students both in their schools & in our shop, and 2) to sustain our organization in our current location into the future.

NBLA offers the chance for students to explore history, literature, and printmaking, all in one visit. During a time when art programs are disappearing from schools, iPads are replacing physical books, and Twitter is shortening our attention spans to 140 characters, we are inviting children and adults to fall in love with the act of writing, reading, and printing again.

OUR VISION:
RECENT EDUCATION INITIATIVES

FIELD TRIPS TO NBLA

Tour of shop includes a brief history of printing, the presses, and typography. Demonstration includes a hands-on activity. Tour and demo can be tailored to class curriculum.

IN-SCHOOLS INTRODUCTION & DEMO

In-school presentation and demo includes up to 1 hour of instruction that can be tailored to class curriculum. Demonstration includes hands-on activity on tabletop press. Supplies and materials are provided.

YOUTH SUMMER WORKSHOPS

In these new week-long workshops, students will learn the basics of letterpress printing and bookbinding. They will have the opportunity to experiment with their own sense of design through a series of typesetting activities, and at the end, will leave with their own hand-bound, single signature, small edition of poetry or prose chapbooks.
